The reason I love reading so much is always learning something new. In this book it was Nigeria, which I know nothing about apart from the snippets on the news occasionally.
Purple Hibiscus is told through the eyes of a teenager and I read on another review that this novel is YA fiction. If so, it is quite dark, covering mental and physical abuse and the huge difference between the comfortably wealthy and the poverty stricken.
I don't want to give anything away in this review, the ending was one I didn't see coming at all but one of the key points of this book was that comfort and safety didn't always bring with it happiness.
I will read more by Adichie in the future.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for inviting me to review this book.
