I love and have always loved reading. I usually read one at once but at times I will read two. I have a book end which states 'Caution! Bookworms bite when disturbed.
The Skeleton Road by Val McDermid is a stand alone novel that I hope will develop into a series. When a skeleton is found at the top of a building Karen Pirie who heads the Cold Case Unit is brought in to investigate the case.
When links are discovered to the war in Yugoslavia the investigation also moves to Oxford and the Balkans.
Parts of the novel take the form of a diary that is written by Maggie a professor at Oxford University. Even though these were quite difficult to read at times they were the better parts of the novel for me.
I was slightly disappointed in the ending but I am hoping that this series will continue to see how the characters of Karen Pirie and others in her team develop.
